SOLAR POWER IN NEW JERSEY
Fenwick Creek Solar Project
AES’ Fenwick Creek project is a planned 38 MW solar generation facility and trail that will be located in Salem County, New Jersey, between Kings Highway and Duboise Road. The Fenwick Creek solar project will help diversify the state’s energy resources while delivering affordable and reliable energy to help meet New Jersey’s goal of transitioning to 100% renewable energy by 2050.
Our clean energy commitment
AES’ Fenwick Creek Solar Project is a planned facility in New Jersey. We are committed to responsible clean energy development that creates long-term value and positive impact for both the environment and local communities.
Economic and environmental benefits
We believe in being a good neighbor, ensuring responsible clean energy development that benefits both the environment and local communities without burdening existing infrastructure.
Project details
- Location & Site: The project is sited on Waldac Dairy Farm in Mannington Township, NJ, with the substation adjacent to the local 69kV line. The total project area is approximately 634.9 acres.
- Acreage Breakdown: About 300 acres will be fenced for solar modules and infrastructure, while the remaining acreage includes buffers, farmable land, wetlands, waterbodies, and ecological areas.
- Natural Areas & Buffers: The project incorporates native ecological landscaping and buffers designed to complement the local environment, protect wetlands, and integrate the site into the natural landscape.
- Pollinator Habitat: A pollinator plan is required and implemented throughout the solar fields, using native grasses and flowering forbs to create dedicated pollinator-friendly habitats that benefit local agriculture and soil health.
- Agricultural Uses: The project supports ongoing agriculture through sheep grazing within the solar fields (agrivoltaics), small-acreage farming outside the fenced area, and soil restoration for future agriculture after decommissioning.
- Job Creation: Approximately 75–100 jobs will be created during construction, with 1–2 full-time operational jobs post-construction. Local businesses benefit from increased economic activity and supply needs.
- CSI Program: Fenwick Creek Solar is a recipient of New Jersey’s Competitive Solar Incentive (CSI) award, supporting grid-connected clean energy and agricultural benefits through pollinator and land management requirements.
