The Great Creek Solar project, developed by AES, is a 46.8 MW solar facility in Brunswick County, Virginia, located along Old Poole Road in the Red Oak district. As AES’ first venture of its kind in the county, it demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing energy innovation in the Commonwealth.
Planned to begin operations in 2027, the project will generate clean, carbon-free electricity to power thousands of homes and businesses. It incorporates advanced solar technologies and is designed to minimize environmental impact. The Great Creek Solar project aims to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the local community while contributing to Virginia’s transition towards a sustainable energy future.

- Approximately 254 acres of land will be developed
- Dominion Energy customers will receive clean energy produced by the project
- AES is the long-term owner and operator of the facility
- At the end of the project's life, a decommissioning plan allows for the land to return to agricultural use or other uses consistent with land-use policies at the time

Environmental and technical studies
AES and its environmental consultant conducted a preliminary assessment of the environmental conditions at the site based on a review of publicly available maps, studies, and previous environmental reports prepared for the property. More detailed information is being obtained through due diligence and site-specific studies, as well as community feedback, and will be used to inform the design process.
The Project design will seek to avoid and minimize environmental impacts to the extent possible. Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be implemented to further minimize impacts throughout the Project lifecycle.
