Madelka McCalla
Chief Corporate Affairs & Impact Officer
Madelka Mc Calla is AES’ Chief Corporate Affairs and Impact Officer reporting directly to the Global Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this position, Madelka served as Vice President of Global Stakeholder Relations and Social Impact, and as Director of Stakeholder Relations first for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) then global, where she oversaw businesses in the implementation of AES strategic approach towards stakeholder engagement. She also served as AES Africa corporate social responsibility director (2010 - 2013) in Cameroon and Nigeria.
Her employment experience also includes the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Panama as UN Coordination Specialist in which she managed the UN Resident Coordinator’s communication with UN actors, including the UN Secretariat at HQ and national authorities as well as liaised between the UN Country Team and national counterparts to identify the country's needs and priorities in line with the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Madelka was part of the Panamanian Foreign service from 2005 to 2009 where she represented the Government of Panama at the Embassy of Panama to the United States as Political Counselor and at the Permanent Mission of Panama to the United Nations as Political Attaché.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science (focused on international relations) and sociology from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. In addition, she holds a Master of Arts in global governance and public policy with a minor concentration in development and technology in developing countries from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany. Madelka is an alumni of Georgetown Global Competitive Leadership for Ibero-American professionals and a Fellow of the Central America Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
Ms. McCalla serves as a board member of AES Andes in Chile, AES Brazil, AES Colombia, Vice Chair of the U.S.-Mexico Foundation Board, and locally on the boards of the Arlington Community Foundation, Arlington Chamber of Commerce and Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
