Projects in Illinois, Michigan and Missouri will generate substantial benefits for Midwest communities
AES delivers more carbon-free power in support of Microsoft operations
March 6, 2025
The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) announced today the signing of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Microsoft to provide renewable energy to the MISO power grid, in support of Microsoft’s operations in the Midwest. The three agreements include two solar projects nearing completion in Michigan and Missouri, expected to come online in the first half of 2025, in addition to a third solar project in Illinois.
These projects expand AES’ existing collaboration with Microsoft and will add a combined capacity of 475 MW of renewable energy to the region, strengthening grid reliability to meet increasing power demands. Together, the facilities are expected to deliver significant investment to local communities, including hundreds of jobs during peak construction, millions of dollars in long-term tax revenue, and strong local partnerships in addition to delivering net-new, carbon-free energy.
“We are collaborating once again with Microsoft to deliver value beyond the projects alone, and providing solutions to support their operations,” said Kleber Costa, Chief Commercial Officer of AES’ US Renewables business.
These agreements build on AES’ existing contracts with Microsoft in the US and Latin America. Together, AES and Microsoft have signed over 1 GW of PPAs to develop reliable, affordable, and carbon-free energy projects.
