AES in the US

Building a reliable and affordable energy future in America

We own and operate a diverse portfolio of energy facilities, including more than 600 solar, wind, battery energy storage, natural gas, and other flexible capacity projects across 31 states and territories in the US. We are advancing grid modernization, operating safe and reliable energy, and rapidly scaling renewables to deliver cost-competitive energy solutions to utilities, communities, corporations, and organizations. Our energy facilities create jobs, build community partnerships, and generate economic benefits for local communities and school districts.

Our projects

With operations across the country, we are a leader in developing and delivering innovative energy solutions tailored to meet the growing needs of our customers and the communities we serve.

Access to energy and basic services

Expanding access to safe, efficient, and affordable energy and essential resources to improve lives.

Through the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation’s Kaiāulu Fund, the Kalāhiki Initiative, led by Hawaiian Council, advances community‑driven resilience solutions across Hawaiʻi. The partnership supports low‑income households with free energy audits, efficiency upgrades, solar plus battery backup, and disaster‑resilience retrofits, while creating neighborhood‑based mini resilience hubs on Oʻahu and Maui.

Economic growth and education

Driving opportunities and prosperity through education, capacity, building, and cultural preservation.

AES partnered with Solar One in New York City to strengthen its community engagement, job placement, and employment services in 2026. Through this partnership, AES is supporting a clean energy future by training over 500 green workforce students, placing at least 100 individuals in sustainability‑focused jobs, and connecting early‑career talent with employers through job fairs and workforce partners.

Environmental stewardship

Protecting ecosystems and promoting sustainable living through conservation and environmental restoration.

Launched in 2022, AES’ Coastal Enhancement Program aims to restore wetlands and improve access to quality environmental education for disadvantaged communities in Southern California. The dual focus on coastal restoration and environmental education is crucial, as it fosters awareness and stewardship among local community members across all age groups.

Community resilience

Preparing communities to adapt, respond to and recover from weather-related disasters to support rapid recovery and long-term sustainability.

In partnership with the American Red Cross, AES has supported disaster readiness and response, from home fires to natural disasters, since 2022. As a member of the Red Cross Disaster Responder Program, AES helps provide emergency shelter, relief supplies, meals, and financial assistance to families during recovery.

Our social impact programs in the US strengthen positive socioeconomic and environmental impact through partnerships with local, regional and national organizations that improve lives today, delivering benefits beyond energy projects.

National        Nationally, we cultivate partnerships that address critical, topical issues such as workforce development, environmental conservation, and community resilience.
Regional                        Guided by our Social Impact Framework, regionally we aim to build partnerships where we have clusters of project communities, working with non-profit organizations to advance their missions in alignment with our social impact and strategic company-wide goals.
LocalSupporting our project host communities is key to our collective success and is a critical part of our engagement strategy. Teams work closely with communities to understand their unique needs and values, working to bridge the resource gaps to create long-term impact.

Resilient Communities Grant Program

AES’ Resilient Communities Grant Program is dedicated to collaborating with non-profit organizations committed to enhancing community resilience and climate adaptation.

Launched in 2025, this grant program was a pilot project for small-scale funding for organizations across AES’ geographic focus areas. Informed by insights from a group of local stakeholders, we invite mission-aligned organizations to apply and partner with us with a shared goal of scaling impact in the future.

This grant program will prioritize funding for proposals that address the below focus areas. Proposals could include but are not limited to:

  • Green infrastructure, built environment, and disaster preparedness
  • Community-led climate planning and social connectivity initiatives
  • Non-profit technical assistance and capacity building
  • Community research and training
  • Launched in 2025, program continues in 2026

Kaiāulu Fund

The AES Hawaiʻi Foundation makes charitable contributions to organizations in the local communities that AES Hawaiʻi serves, as well as addressing statewide needs.

The Kaiāulu Fund aims to build a more sustainable and resilient future for Hawaii, designed to empower community-based organizations to lead initiatives that drive positive change. In 2025, the Kaiāulu Fund supported grantees working on programs that improve community resilience and social justice and energy equity on Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island.

Safer Tomorrow Fund

AES’ Safer Tomorrow Fund is a grant program that provides funding to local first-responder organizations to help them invest in equipment, training, and resources to strengthen safety and emergency preparedness.

In 2025, we launched the AES Safer Tomorrow Fund in partnership with Volunteer Fire Departments (VFDs) in Nolan and Taylor Counties, Texas in support of our Buffalo Gap Wind Project. Through this grant program, we have awarded seven VFDs with funding to implement upgrades to mobile systems, equipment, and facilities that enhance safety and emergency response capabilities across the region.

Safety is at the core of everything we do, and safety first is AES’ number one value. We recognize that it is essential for fire and first responders to have access to reliable equipment and resources to protect both themselves and the communities they serve. Together, these efforts enhance the ability of first responders to operate safely, communicate reliably, and deliver timely emergency services.
